I feel so sorry for the victims of the Spainair lockout, that I decided to write a short travel blog post about it. Vueling (and others) has a special flight rate deal for the Spanair stranded passengers that stands until January 30 2012, that might help some travelers.

The Spanish flight company Vueling even decided to start their flight route between Stockholm - Barcelona today - much earlier than planned (March) - because of the Spanair bankruptcy. Tickets can be bought through their mobile site too: m.vueling.com.

So if you are a Spanair.com lockout victim, you can hopefully get this special flight rate by Vueling at: http://www.vueling.com/spanair/ or read more in their blog post about the Spanair passengers options.

I can imagine what a chaos, since Spain is such a huge European tourist destination, when all those stranded passengers are going to try to get tickets with other flight companies like Iberia, Air Europa and Ryanair (49 Euro rescue fare) etc.

Having an owner of ownership in Spanair of 10,9 percent, the Scandinavian Airlines SAS reports that their loss will be possible to handle for them and that they will be involved as a creditor in the upcoming bankruptcy process. The event will have a limited effect on SAS liquidity.

Let’s face it: It could have been you or me. It’s never fun - to not get that well deserved getaway that you may have saved up for in months. What a nightmare.

To be stranded somewhere without a flight you’ve counted on if you really have to return at a specific date could cost you more than you can afford, both money wise and perhaps work wise. Your boss might not be pleased if you can’t get home in time.

Me? I would LOVE to be stranded in Spain right now… he he…

Recently I have been getting some new Tech stuff, like a new camera a while before Christmas (Canon EOS 600D) and now the other day I got an iPhone 4S when renewing my account. To learn about this new stuff takes many hours of my time. (Fun hours though!)

There is so many nice features in both the camera and the mobile phone. The camera will take the longest time to get used to though - or to get skilled enough to use all the extra functions I might say.

When it comes to the mobile phone, it takes hours and hours to search through for all the apps - even though there are recommendations from friends, other users and experts - I still want the ones I like the most, not only the ones others like.

I’ll come back with some kind of report of what I finally decided to download in apps - and even anything special I discover or learn with the new camera, but I suspect I’ll not shoot so many photos until we’re going to meetup with our Norwegian friends in February.

Anyway: now you know what I’m occupied with. I really LOVE both my new tech babies. Only thing missing now is a new laptop too…

Have any great travel apps or photo apps to recommend? Write a comment!

I captured a snake on photo at our summer island (Gotland) once, which I think is a Swedish grass snake (snok in Swedish) - or Natrix natrix, family: Colubridae. We have two subspecies: N. n. natrix and N. n. gotlandica - which not even many Swedes know actually.

gotland-snake

I think this one is a N. n. gotlandica, but it’s hard to tell, they can look rather different from each other, up to 40 percent are black without the characteristic yellow spots on the neck - and there sometimes are black European Viper (huggorm in Swedish), Vipera berus, too.

See that it’s blurry, the photo? That’s because I was not totally convinced it really was dead and not was the more dangerous Viper. I do have a fear for snakes, so I was trying to take a good photo for a long time, but I was shaking too much… ha ha…

It was not I who killed this snake - in fact: all snakes in Sweden are protected species. I think it might have been increasing a little the last couple of years, because we even saw the farm cats playing with a snake at the farm yard once.

This also reminded me that one should always do research about a countries dangerous species before going there as a tourist. It’s always best to be prepared.
